SONGS AND BALLADS, BY W. R. WILLS.
(Auckland : Printed by H. Brett.) Another quarterly part of Mr Wills's issue of his seleetpd poetical works has lately come to hand, and contains a large amount of excellent matter. The principal poem in this number is entitled ' God's Splendid Son,' and it is in many respects a remarkable one. The divisions of it under the headings of ' The Christ who Died in Vain,' 'Of Whom do They Gather Tribute?' and 'Behold, He Cometh,' are especially good, and are well worthy of being laid to heart by all real friends of social and religious progress. ' Dead Inez ' is a passionate love tale, grandly told, and the other pieces are so varied in theme and treatment as to suit all tastes. This issue of Mr Wills's works is printed on thick quarto, and when completed will make an edition de luxe worthy of him and of the colony. The quarterly numbers are only sixpence each, and they are worth more than double.
