An Auckland Merchant.

(To the Editor, Obsebver.) Sib, — When travelling in the South, I m«t a full-blown merchant from Auckland, who now styles himself a grain mercliant, but who at one time carried on bnsiness in your city a<* a draper. What business brought him South P Was it anything to do with the bankruptcy of a grain and produce firm of your city which took place in August 1889, or was it to raise the wind ? I saw from a copy of your valuable paper of September 1889, that the individual in question has a system of book keeping called ' Post Entry.' We Southern merchants took his measure. — I am, etc., JAS. WfflTß. Great King-street, Dunedin.
