MR JOHN LUNDON,
who has been in gaol— and out of it as quick ; who has run a farm, a pub, a big contracting business, and the Village Settlement scheme ; who has been in the early days a member of the Provincial Council, and in these latter days Plenipotentiary Extraordinary to the Court ol King Malietoa of Samoa, seeks election for the Bay of Islands. John is an Irishman without blarney or blatherskyte (which is more than can be said of one of his opponents), he is as ' straight ' as they make them, and his large political experience may atone for a certain fossilised ring about some of his opinions. He is just poor enough to be offered a bribe, but I think he would be man enough to refuse it. He would do some good at Wellington ; but I don't altogether fancy his chances. Those who favour his return ought to fight hard.
