A WELCOME TO CHRISTMAS FILS. (By the Editor.)
Hail, sunny guest, In garlands dressed — Scion of one we loved of old — That hoary sire By the blazing fire Who sat, when Yule-tide tales were told ! Too tender thou to bear the cold, Seen breath of the Boreal blast ; So South away, To a fairer day And milder skies, thou'st passed. •* Blithe comer ! With summer we greet thee here, Then sing we, and bring we our Christmas cheer ! Eefbain— * -Out by the woods and glancing 1 waters, Hearing not bells, but bell-birds' chime ; Pastoral peace for strifes and slaughters, Wattle for holly, and bloom for rime, — Thuß do the South Land's sens and daughters Spend in gladness the Christmas time ! 11. Come, sprightly elf, Disport thyself *Mid scenes of brightness, love, and joy ; Thy chubby face And rounded grace Proclaim thee as thy father's boy ! Let no regrets tby soul annoy, Nor thoughts of the olden day ; Dear foster-child, from home exiled, Zealandia bids thee stay ! Blithe comer !
