Dacre showed splendid form at the Swimming Sports last Saturday, and carried off two events. > —St. Mary's beat the Wanderers on Saturday, the latter losing more by bad generalship than anything else. —Davy Simpson has struck out in a new line for himself. He has bought a bicycle and intends surprising his friends. —It is now definitely decided that the Waitemata Boating Club will send a champion gig. crew down to Dunedin. —The Auckland and Parnell match was continued last Saturday, when the former won in the first innings by 21 runs. —Mr C. This race would have fallen through had it not been for the efforts of Mr Colebrook. Mr B. St. Clair has lost no time in the formation of a New Zealand Swimming Association, with its headquarters in Auckland. Prompt measures were necessary and Mr St. Clair has clinched the matter by inviting other clubs to join, and I am pleased to say with very favourable results. — For many reasons, the Auckland Swimming Club's Carnival at Lake Takapuna, on Saturday last, cannot be considered a success. Although the attendance was fairly good, and the racing quite on a level with any yet seen in Auckland, yet the public were greatly disappointed in not being able to have such a good view of the racing as that to be had at Calliope Dock. — Jack Hempton's record for the 100 yards at the Dunedin Exhibition Meeting has created a good deal of discussion. The time was certainly very good, but as several think it stands as the record, I have taken 1 the trouble to look, up the world's record for 100 yards, whiah is as follows :— On September 30th, 1844, at England,, ' George Seward did the distance in 9|aeo.
