PAKCJRANGA HUNT CLUB RACES.

The race meeting in connection with the Pakuranga Hunt Club came off on the Otahuhu racecourse on Saturday. A rather cold wind was blowingthroughout the afternoon but otherwise the weather was beautifully fine. There were about a couple of thousand spectators on the ground, and although there were but few close finishes, the racing was . interesting, and no protests or. disputes cropped up. Entering the home turn, Peter Osbeck looked all over a winner, but at the hurdle, half way down the straight, he blundered, running out wide. Here Kangaroo came with a terrific rush, and ran home winner by a couple of lengths. Caiesby fell afc the hurdle rounding the home turn. Time, 3min 36sec. Dividend, £8 16s. A little further on, Capella assumed command, and she led past the stand, with Ernest on her quarters; Eruption, Lioness and Sir Walter I being close up with Clogs in a good posi- ; tion. At the back of the course j Eruption moved up to Capella and Ernest, who were still in front, but he soon died away again. Clogs then commenced to thread her way through the field, and she was first in the straight, Capella having shot her bolt. Once fairly in the straight, it could be seen the race was all over, Clogs running home an easy winner by a couple of lengths from Ernest, Antelope, ■ who came with a rush at the finish, gaining third honours. Time, 2min. 44secs. Dividend, £2 11s. The Hack Race of 15sovs, top weight, 9st, one mile, was won by Mr B. Thompson's b g Buzzard, Hunt's Dollar being second, and Hanlan's Jamaica third. Hawthorn was first away, and led round tbe course at the back of the stand, Falcon and Whalebone being his closest attendants, but when they came on to the course at the 1 right of the grand-stand, Artist was in the van, Hawthorn second, Falcon third. Whalebone fourth, Kangaroo fifth, Orangeman sixth, ai.d Peter Osbeck last. Kangaroo feil at the jump from the straight, and afc the back of the course Artist was still Jeading, followed by Hawthorn, Whalebone, and Messenger. Here Artist bolted and a splendid race round the back of the grand-stand took place, Whalebone leading, with Messenger, Falcon, and Orangeman close up, and in this order they landed ,on the course proper. Messenger took the 1< ad on the flat, but running off at the last hurdle; he spoiled his chance, and Whalebone came home an easy winner. Dividend, £15 3s.
