ABOUT TOWN

< A DREAM FULFILLED. Dreams, forewarning®, and presentiments, are not to be implicitly relied upon, but at the same time there have been too many reliable and authentic instances of dreams being realised, forewarnings verified, and presentiments fulfilled, to lead the curious inquirer into these matters to any other conclusion than that there is ' something in them.' The latest instance of a strange dream that has come under our notice is that of a lady residing in London, whose husband, connected with a great mercantile house, was suddenly called upon to proceed to New Zealand in the interests of his firm, and who quitted the Old Country full of health and vigour, to return, alas! no more. It appears from a private letter received hero by the 'Frisco mail, that on the night before this gentleman's departure his wife had a dream, which made such a deep impression on her mind that she could not forbear mentioning it to her husband at the breakfast table. The dream was simply this : The lady saw her husband arrive safely at his destination, and, in due time, busy himself with preparations for his return. She thougnt he had engaged a passage back to England, and., even saw the very cabin allotted to him, but lying in the bunk in his cabin was a coffin ! The poor lady thereupon awoke, and the bitterness of her subsequent parting with her husband to whom she had not long been married, and who strove in vain to laugh away her fears Avas intensified by the dismal foreboding that something was going to happen to him. She received one letter from him announcing his safe arrival in the Colony, and containing assurances that he would not delay his return home one day longer than was absolutely necessary. The following mail but one brought the anxious wife word that her husband had died in Melbourne on the eve of his departure for England. He had been stricken with apoplexy while staying ar the house of an old friend, and had quietly passed away. A. passage for London was found among his effects. This is certaiuly a very strange story, and, if the facts are as

represented in the letter received by our informant, (as we have every reason to believe is the case) another notable instance of the fulfillment of a dream may be added to the long list of such curious things.
