BOXING MATCH AT PARNELL FOR £30 A-SIDE.

A boxing contest between R. Mathevrs, the young American, and E. Donovan, the Auckland champion, is arranged for Monday next, at the Parnell Hall. Mathews undertakes to knock Donovan out of time in four three-minute rounds, the stakes being £30 a-side. Donovan's hardiness with, the gloves is well known, and Mathews -srould appear to be a tough customer, judging by his recent encounter with Pettengell (the Wellington boxer) at Dunedin^ for j£oO a-side, when the match concluded in a round and a half, less than five minutes being consumed in actual -fighting. Pettengell was about used up, but Mathews was as fresli as paint, being without a mark, and he proved this by offering to box any other local man right off. Under these ' cirks" Monday's: match should prove an interesting one. When Greek meets Greek, then comes tha tug of war.
