HUNTLEY HUMS.

"Incognita" writes : -The ball of May 1 5 th was a. great success, notwithstanding the uncertain weather. It would be difficult to name the belle among the galaxy of rural beauty present. A •' Wallflower" sums up the various styles of of dancing thus : — The ladies surpassed the gentlemen in most of the dances, excepting, perhaps, the mazurka. t; J.H." held his partner as if he were afraid she would slip from his grasp, Alf. N. (wlid ought to know better) waltzes with his head in the air. , Mr H. has a bend in the middle, which looks as uncomfortable as it is ungraceful. R. N 1 genuflects at every turn, and slides out one of his feet as if to trip up rival dancers. An even more dangerous performer is Fred F., who works his left hand up and down as if it were a pump-handle. Mr K.S., a tall yoang gentleman with a topheavy kind of stoop, leans over his partner like a great hen taking a chicken under her wings ; while Carlyle looked as if he wished he were rid of his bargain. As the room became gradually empty, the most furious dancing began, and when onty three or four couples were left, their movements more resembled acrobatic feats than dancing. This is a little hard on the boys, but time and practice work wonders, and doubtless this opinion —lightly and fantastically told — will veer round to worthier praise before long. The " Wallflower" mentioned is an outsider, and therefore impartial. The initials are rilled in by request. You may deem the report over-sarcastic. For my part I think the knowledge of their faults should stir them to improvement.
