COURSING.
First meeting 1 on new Phiinpton Park, Papatoitoi, on Monday. The old Papanui Coursing Club, Christchurch, has been re-established. Wondering Friar won the PujDpy Stakes at the South Canterbury Coursing Club's Meeting. The All-aged Stakes fell to Market Day. ThePlumpton Club (Christchurch) hold a meeting to-day j (Saturday). All-aged Maiden Dog Puppy and Maiden Bitch Puppy Stakes are the chief attractions. Mr Chatteris, who is to judge at the Coursing Meeting on Monday and Tuesday next, arrived from the South during the week. Special trains will run to Papatoitoi on Monday and Tuesday, leaving Auckland each day at 10.10, and. stopping at intermediate stations to pick up passengers. 'The return trains will leave at 5.20. For the convenience of Waikato visitors, the 4.15 train from Auckland will stop at the Papatoitoi crossing to pick up passengers for Mercer, etc. Everything is in readiness for the inaugural opening of the new Plumpton Park of the Auckland Coursing Club on Monday and Tuesday next, and with fine weather there is not the slightest doubt but what the attendance will be large. The President's Cup is, of course, the attraction, the number of entries for which is the largest ever received for any coursing event in the Colony. The Club may feel proud of the position attained, and before long I hope to see a "Waterloo Cup for the North Island established at Auckland. Such an event would attract attention from all parts of the . colony, and Australia might be represented. I must congratulate the Club on securing the services of so distinguished a judge as Mr Chatteris, whose decisions are very rarely questioned. In Mr Fergusson they have also an excellent slipper, and one that thoroughly understands his work. If the meeting is not a success, then it will not be any fault of the secretary, Mr Wallnutt, who has been unremitting in his attentions to" its interests, and striven hard to make the affair a success. Monsoon.
