Old men, young men, and boys are all flocking to the standard. They -are confident that in the event of a fight they -will be well handled, and if shot they will be fully resigned, because the proper carrying out of the duty necessitated their sacrifice. It is to be hoped that they will keep themselves in good condition, so that they will be able to fight for a lengthened period without getting knocked tip. To keep in good condition it is necessary that they should take plenty of exercise, it is also essential that they should consume a liberal amount of good food. In these dull times even a little addition to the daily fare is a serious item to many. There is one way of lessening Ihe consequent pressure, which is to buy their cheese, butter, and bacon at Eaton's Co-operative Store, nest Criterion Hotel, Hobsonstreet. The colony's debt is said to be £45 12s 5d per head, or equal to six years' revenue from all sources.
