WILL ANY GENTLEMAN OBLIGE A LADY ?

The courteous behaviour of some of tlie passengers by the 9.45 a.m. 'bus from Onchunga to town on Monday deserves passing 1 notice. The 'bus was crammed inside and well patronised outside before it had fairly started on its journey. Just before it reached Gwyune's Hotel two ?adies hailed it, but were

informed that it was a case of " full inside." Ou learning that the ladies were anxious to reach Auckland without delay, in order to catch a steamer, the driver asked the occupants of the box-seat ' Whether they would " oblige the ladies," adding that there was plenty of room on the roof." The gentlemen addressed, however, positively declined to budge, and actually allowed the ladies to scramble up on to the roof of the vehicle, rather than surrender their feats by the driver. Two Onehunga gentlemen did" their best to make the ladies comfortable in their exalted position, giving- up their own seats on the " knifo-board " to them, and assisting them to alight, thus endeavouring to make up for the conduct of the cads on the box, whose behaviour, was the theme of general comment. The over-crowding- in those 'busses, by the wny, is causing much grumbling. There were seventeen adults and five children inside this particular 'bus on the journey referred to, the pioper complement being fourteen, two children being reckoned equal to one adult.
