THE HAKE AND THE CROW.
A Hare Observed a Crow Alight near a Cornfield which was Plentifully Sprinkled with Scare-Crows, and as the Bird Hesitated to enter the In closure, the Hare Remarked : "My Friend, there is Corn to be had over there for the Digging." "Yes, but you See those Figures?" answered the Crow. "Exactly : but they are nothing but old coats and hats and cast-off jackets." "That's what I have Every Reason to Believe," Reflected the Crow; " should I Become toe Familiar with those things, how easy it will be for the Farmer Himself to Approach near enough to shoot me ! I want Corn, but I don' tcare to Become the Victim of a Funrral Procession."
