Amidst all the rumours of wars at the present time, one thing is certain — the people of Auckland must be fed. If they are kept on short rations they can't fight. A great war means extra taxation. How this additional strain is to be met out of the pockets of the people, who have only their weekly wage to live on and pay rent into the bargain, is a matter that has given Eaton, of the Hobson-street Co-operative Stores, considerable concern. Being anxious to serve his customers to the best of his ability, he has just made some exceptionally good purchases, and in consequence can sell tea, sugar, butter, bacon, cheese, fruit, fish, and all sorts and conditions of table requisites, far bebw what other provision dealers term cost price. By purchasing at his store, next Criterion Hotel, Hobson-street, the people can effect ample savings to "meet all the present and expected additional taxation of the colony.
