A great injustice is about to be perpetrated in Auckland, and that too by .some of the magnates of the land. The Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar school, have built themselves a school building, after (one would suppose on the -part of such grave and reverend ncujnexra) due thought and deliberation It now appears that the building is not suitable, the playground is not suitable, the position is not suitable. So they coolly send down a memo South to the Minister of Eucation, asking him to purchase from them this unsuitable and very expensive building for the use of the Girls' High School ! Now, if the playground is too small for boys, is it therefore large enough for girls ? if the position of the building is too public for boys, what is to become of the modesty or delicacy of the girls ? But independently of all this, are the already over-burdened taxpayers to be asked to put their hands into their pockets and pay a large sum of money becaxise the Board of Governors have built a place unsuitable for a school? And this, too, for a school lilled by the children of the richest people in the district ! For this, the struggling clerk, the hard working artizan must pay, and pay heavily ! But the worst is to come. Long before this building was com-' pleted, Mr. Heath, the master of the Girls' High .School, said openly, "It is very probable that in a little while the Grammar School building will be found unsuitable and too near town, it will then come in nicely for the Girls' High School. "(!)
