TALLEST TREE.

NEW ZEALAND RECORD. BIG GUM AT OMAKA. 2(52 FEET IN HEIGHT. -A gum tree at Brookby, Omaka, standing 202 ft in height, which was guaranteed by Professor 11. 11. Corbin to be the tallest tree in New Zealand, was inspected by him when he was in Blenheim recently, .states the Express. Advice to this effect was given at last week’s meeting of the Wairau "River Board by the chairman (Mr. E. S. Parker), who accompanied Professor Corbin on his visit of inspection. “Actually there was Bft of dead wood at the top of the tree, and this was not taken into account,” remarked Mr. Parker. The professor, commenting on the many big trees in Marlborough, suggested that the heavy dew at night helped materially to bring about this growth.
