RAID ON AVIARY.
BIRD FANCIER’S LOSS
MANY RELEASED OR STOLEN. EGGS AND NESTS TAKEN. [By Telegraph. —Press Association], HAWERA, Sept. 23. A bird fancier at Manaia has lost GO British and foreign cage birds, some being stolen and others released. Access was gained to the aviary behind the combined shop premises and residence owned by Mr. J. Hodgson. The
door was broken open on one occasion but only a few birds Avere lost. Precautions Avere taken to strengthen the aviary, but on Monday intruders cut tile Avlre netting. A variety of birds was housed in the aviary, and those not stolen evidently escaped during the early daylight hours. Three settings of eggs, some ready to hatch with the sitting birds, as Avell as three or four nests, were taken.
