MILITARY MATTERS.

MORE INTEREST TAKEN.

FIVE MORE JOIN UP.

MACHINE-GUN PLATOON.

Officers in charge of the Thames Machine-Gun Platoon, Avhich paraded last evening, expressed themselves as very gratified at the enthusiasm and interest taken. Five new recruits of fine stamp joined up, bringing the strength up practically to that of a full platoon. After the parade the officers discussed the necessity for two more machine-guns and have sent in a requisition for these in view of the everincreasing interest being shown locally. Sergt.-Major Milne, of the Defence Department, expressed himself as very pleased at the increased enthusiasm in Thames, which now heads the local defence district in this matter. The Thames Territorial Association, which is backing up the local boys in every way, decided to enlarge the social room and provide more furniture. etc. Tt is also assisting in every way to increase recruiting, and its mem bers will be only too pleased to advise young men at any time. First Lady Member. The first lady member to join tlto Territorial Association is Mips J. N. Scott, who has forwarded a donation and has promised to give every assistance. It is hoped that other ladies in the district will also assist the Association, which is formed to take a personal interest in the soldiers and show them that they have a community backing. Next Drill Night. The next parade will take place on the evening of April 6, when it is expected that not only will there be a full muster, but that more recruits will enrol. There is plenty of room for the right type of keen, intelligent young fellow to join up and bring back to Thames some of the glories of the old days when volunteer corps marched smartly down Pollen Street, several hundred strong.
