INQUEST CONCLUDED.
MINERS’ PHTHISIS SUFFERER. CORONER’S VERDICT. The inquest concerning the death of John Mann, of Thames, who was found dead in a room off a ward in the Thames Public Hospital on Saturday morning, was concluded before the district coroner, Mr. W. Bongard, last evening.
Evidence was given by two members of the nursing staff relative to the discovery of deceased’s body. Dr. R. Wagstaff, house surgeon, said deceased was suffering from miners’ phthisis in an advanced stage. In his opinion, death was due to a wound in the lower part of the neck, selfinflicted. The verdict was in accord with the medical evidence, the coroner stating that no one knew to what extent deceased had suffored from the complaint.
