Price of Gold and Silver. Gold is quoted at £6/19/94 per ounce on the London market this week, and silver at 20 1 lCd per ounce.

Houses Selling. During the past few weeks, it is stated, quite a number of houses have changed hands in Thames, and in several instances other deals are under

way. Encore! Quite unintentional but nevertheless a really good advertisement for the party which does not believe in reducing the lives of the people to that of mere mechanical puppets, with outlooks as dreary as an ant's nest on a wet day, appeared recently. Those in the know are hoping for more.

Further Progress in Thames. Within the next few months it is expected that several new businesses will be established in Pollen Street, marking the increased progrcssiveness of the town. Wonderful headway has been made in the Thames business area during the last two years, and there is every indication of it continuing.

Tararu Cricket Teams. Mr. J. G. Smith, Willoughby Street, has sent in two framed photographs of the Tararu cricket teams of 1594-5. These are a splendid addition to the Old Pioneers' Museum, and arc in a perfect state of preservation, the name of each player being quite readable under each photo. These two teams made cricket history in their day, am 1 the photographs should prove of great interest to tlTe rising generation of wielders of the willow.

A.A. (Auckland) Fiji Agency. The Automobile Association (Auckland) hus established an agency at Suva, Fiji. Already approximately 100 members have enrolled.

Arbor Day. On August 11 (next Wednesday week) the Beautifying Society will commence its tree-planting campaign. It is understood that Mrs. Thorn, wife of Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., will plant fhe first tree. Arrangements for the attendance of school children will bo made.

Anti-Poverty Society. The Te Aroha News states, under the caption, "The Familiar Unknown": "Did you know that a movement akin to Douglas Credit, termed the AntiPoverty Society, existed in New Zea; land over 50 years ago —a report of the first annual meeting appearing in the Te Aroha News of that time?"

A Little Searching Needed. "I notice that photos, and other exhibits have" been received in response to your appeal," said a Thames resident to a "Thames Star" representative when talking of the proposed Old Colonists Museum. "If some of the olde residents were to make a good search of their belongings long since stowed away, and I am sure you could get some wonderful exhibits," he added.

Guaranteed Price. Tho committee dealing with the fixation of the guaranteed prices for butter and cheese during the new season me J : at Parliament House this week, and completed most of the data required for the preparation of its report. The chairman, Sir Francis Fraser, said tho report was being prepared, and it was expected to have it in the hands of the Government in about 10 days, after another meeting of the committee to give the report its final revision.

They Made History. For many years Foy Bros., of Thames, were master photographers. If all the plates they exposed could have been retained, a pictorial history of Thames over a long and interesting period of years would be available. They photographed many interesTTng people and also many old places and spots which are not available to-day. It is noticeable that the majority o J the photographs being sent in for the Old Pioneers' Museum bear the legend. "Foy Bros."

English Women's Hockey Team. The New Zealand Women's Hockey Association has received cabled advice from the All England Women's Hockey Association accepting an invitation to tour Now Zealand next June. The team will consist of high-class players of international standard It will play matches in Australia and take part in the All Australia Women's Hockey Association tournament.

Loyal New Zealand. "At Home New Zealand is looked upon as the most loyal of the colonies," a member of the crew of the Tredinnick, which recently discharged cargo at Wellington, remarked to a Post reporter. "New Zealand is always considered before the others and the people are thought highly of. We have heard from other seafaring men that tho South Island is more loyal and hospitable to those from tho Old Country than the North. We are quite keen to get down there."

Hauraki Rowing Club. The "Star" is indebted to Mr. J. Crosbie, of Edward Street, for sending along a large framed photograph of members of the Hauraki Bowing Club, winners of the whaleboat race held at the Auckland Anniversary Begatta on January 29, 1902. This was the last whaleboat race held and was won by Thames. The team consisted of E. C. Kivell, captain; G. A. Huddlestone, stroke; T. Sommerville, steer oar; T- E. Mullius, No. 3; D. Adamson, No. 4; J. Crosbie, No. 2; H. T. A. Stephenson, No. 1. Mr. A. Newdick, vice-cap-tain and coach, is also shown in the photograph.

Boiled License. A bright story of a Maori naivete was told to members of the Napier Eotary Club by Mr. 11. B. Scmple, Main Highways Board inspector, in the course of an address. When on one occasion lie stopped a Maori near Wairoa, and asked him for his license, said Mr Scmple, the native pulled out from his shirt pocket a piece of pulped paper. "Surely that's not your license!" said Mr. Scmple, who suggested that an accident had befallen it. "By korry, there was an accident," said the Maori. "The wahine, she boil the shirt with tfi license in the pocket."
