"The matter is one of such wide notoriety at the present time that men who take drink and drive cars know the great risk they are taking," said Mr. F. 11. Lcvien, S.M., in fhe Police Court this morning, when a man named Elewson was charged with intoxication while in charge of a motor van. Evidence showed that defendant knocked down a man who was also under the influence of drink. Hewson was lined £5 and his license was cancelled for 12 months. Mr. Lcvien added that about 75 per cent, of cases of this kind coming before himself and other magistrates, involved driver's of commercial vehicles, and that he would bo establishing a precedent if he did not cancel accused's license.
