Early Thames Miner.
MR. THOMAS OSBORNE,
DEATH AT AUCKLAND. A link with Thames' earliest history has been severed with the death at Brown's Bay, Auckland, of Mr. Thomas Osborne at the age of 93 years.
Mr. Osborne was born in the County of Kent, England, and came to Auckland with his parents in 1858. Later he came to Thames, where he was mining for a number of years shortly after the held Avas proclaimed open. He lived in a house he himself erected next door to the site of the present public library. Later he resided at Kawau, where he was closely associated with Sir George Grey. Mr Osborne served in the militia in the Maori War, and saw active service at Tauranga and Rangiriri.
