FRIEND OF MOTORISTS.

MINISTER RESENTS COMMENT. STATEMENT AFTER CONFERENCE (By Telegraph.—Tress Association). WELLINGTON, Jan. 31. Representatives of the North island Motor Union conferred for an hour yesterday with the Minister for Transport, Mr. K. Semple. The talk was held in private. At Hie Conclusion of the conference the Minister said:— “The representatives of the union who met me this afternoon were more (hail satisfied with my attitude toward motorists. It is anything but hostile. The comment made at the motor union’s conference on Wednesday was absolutely unjustified and unwarranted. I had made no pronouncement about the. Main Highways Board, other than to say that no doubt wo would look into the constitution of the board, with a view to improving the position. “I never intimated that the Highways Board had to go. In fact, I have, said nothing detrimental to the motorists of the Dominion. All 7 have said has been in their favour. In the motorists’ journal of December 20, 1035, there is a long report of an interview with me. It indicates definitely that I ain not the enemy, but the friend, of the motorists. The comment that some gentlemen made at the meeting of the motor union relative to my attitude toward motorists was ungenerous.”
