The iirsL test nuiteh between the AI.C.C. and New Zealand cricketers was opened this morning in tine but very dull weather. Mitchell-Innes was twelfth man for M.C.C. New Zealand won the toss and oat ted on a perfect wicket, but made a poor showing in the morning’s play, Weir being the only batsman to make a stand. Four wickets had fallen at the luncheon adjournment without half a century being reached.
The first wicket fell after a quarter of an hour’s play, Mills being caught without scoring. Cromb went out after 25 minutes’ play, being well beaten by a yorker. Results: N.Z. —First innings.
