BOOKMAKER REVENUE

MR. F. W. SCHRAMM’S HINT. CHANGE IN GAMING LAWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) (Received 1.36 p.m.). AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. Nine men appeared in the Police Court this morning- charged win bookmaking or keeping a eommot gaming house. Their appearance was the result of the Auckland de tectives’ last round-up of bookmakers in 1935. The tines imposed by Mr. W. R McKean, S.M., were: Lionel Artkui Baker, £10; Albert Clarence Tail £10; Frederick Walter Breed (thin conviction) £SO; Edward Martii Harvey Nicholson, £2O. William Joseph Bird and Alla Bremner, who admitted partnersh . in a common gaming house, wen lined £2O each.

Appearing for one defendant, M F. W. Schramm, M.P., said that the gaming legislation of New Zealani may undergo some alteration in tin near future.

The magistrate commented tha! previous tines inflicted by him ( apparently no deterrent. The hearing of charges of book making against William George Bloomfield, William Flynn and Thomas Archibald Hayes ucie adjourned.
