Steamer Danger.

ICEBERG JUST AVOIDED. BETWEEN CAPETOWN AND AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 9. A disaster was narrowly missed by the steamer Port Adelaide which arrived at New Plymouth from England, via the Australian ports. Between Capetown and Melbourne the second officer, Mr. G. E. Jones, sighted one black, foggy night an iceberg 20ft. out of the water. With the helm hard to port, the Port Adelaide swerved and the iceberg passed abeam barely 15 seconds after it had first been sighted.. Ten minutes later another was seen to port.
