“The Big Three.”
ESTABLISHING DICTATORSHIP. AGRICULTURE BILL CRITICISM. (Special to Star). ' WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. “There are the Big Three,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. M. ,J. Savage, in the House last night when referring to the proposal in the Agriculture Bill to establish a Commission of Agriculture. “We must go iii for the co-ordination of various boards and economic life genhe continued. “That can be readily admitted, but that is no argument in favour of setting up a dictatorship. Why not alter the law to enable the existing boards . to operate ? I am arguing against transferring the powers of Parliament to a commission of three members appointed by the Government and armed with almost unlimited powers to govern the industry by regulation.” Mr. Savage said the members of the executive commission were to get big salaries to tell the farmer what to do. Mr. W. Nash (Labour, Hutt): Guaranteed salaries. Mr. Savage: Yes, we are guaranteeing their salaries but not the income of the farmers.
