"Irresponsible Brute."
SEVEN YEARS AND FLOGGING. ATTACK ON YOUNG GIRL. CAUSTIC COMMENT BY JUDGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Oct. 30. In the Supreme Court this morning, John Christie Spence, radio salesman, 23, who was convicted on (wo grave charges against a girl under 18, on September 6, was sentenced to seven years' hard labour and ordered a flogging of 15 strokes with the "cat." Mr. Justice Kennedy commented on the ordeal of the girl who, resisting till she was insensible, was for seven hours under the domination of an irresponsible brute, such as prisoner proved himself to be.
