Thames Schools.
HEADMASTERS’ REPORTS. THE DISTRICT. COMMITTEE. Tho Thames District School Committee met last evening. Present: Messrs. J. H. Hodge (chairman), P. L. Jenkin, J. 11. Battson, J. Morley, S. C. Willis and W. S. Clark (secretary). Leave of absence was granted Messrs. J. Pratt, J. A. McLeod, A. Fleet and W. M. Wilton. The chairman welcomed the new member, Mr. Morley, to the committee. The headmaster of the North School, Mr. T. A. Murphy, reported that the roll stood at 61, with an average attendance of 57. A confidential report from the inspector was enclosed. Mr. W. D. Bennett, headmaster of the Central School, reported a roll number of 276 since the holidays. Sixteen new pupils had been admitted and three withdrawn. Owing to prevalence of colds and influenza the average attendance for the past two weeks had dropped to 248. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Mr. T. A. Murphy on the inspector’s excellent report for the North School. Improvements Needed. Owing to the condition of the fence facing Campbell Street at the Central School, it was resolved to make application to the Education Board to have a length of £ chains renewed. Application is also to be made to the Board for the renewal of the flooring of one of the classrooms at the North School. Accounts totalling £3l/12/5 were passed for payment.
