£IOOO Damage.

• FIRE AT WESTFIELD. GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADES. (Special to Star).., , AUCKLAND,,Sept. 17. Damage estimated at about £IOOO was caused to building; plant and stock at the works of-the Westfield Freezing Company, Ltd., Great South Road, Westfield, by a fire which was discovered shortly after 8.30 yesterday morning. A good save was effected by the Ellerslie, Mount Wellington and Onehunga fire brigades, assisted by the staff brigade, the fire being confined to one room on the top floor of the main block of buildings. Although the fire was quickly under control, the brigadesmen had a fairly difficult task, as the room in which the outbreak occurred, a store in the preserving section, contained stacked crates of small glass jars and pots, and hundreds of empty tins for preserved meat. The fire apparently started among the crates, which, with the straw packing -for the glass containers, burned fiercely.
