YOUTH'S SERIOUS INJURIES
ACCIDENT WHILE BLASTING

To be blown about 12 feet when blasting a log on his father's farm at Taringamotu and to suffer a fracture of the skull and broken ribs was the experience of Clifford Waite, aged 17. Waite was engaged in blasting a log which was lying near the Taringamotu stream and was ramming in sodium chlorate and sugar with an iron bar when the accident occurred. The bar was found a chain away from the scene of the explosion.
Waite's brother, who was standing near the log, received a severe shock but was not injured.
The injured youth was brought to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be 'serious.
