Electricity Wanted.

GOAST ROAD RESIDENTS. SUPPORT FOR EXTENSION. CANVASS TO BE MADE. A meeting of Thames Coast residents, convened by Mr. E. Watson, was held at Thornton’s Bay yesterday afternoon to meet representatives of the Thames Valley Powei Board and the Thames County Council with the object of discussing the proposal to extend the Board s power supply line from the Thames borough to include the Coast area as far as Waiomo. Mr. H. Lowe, chairman of the Thames County Council, presided, and there were also present: Messrs, J. Price (chairman) and N. McLeod (engineer), of the Thames Valley Power Board, Cr. J. McCormick, district member of the Board, Cr. 1* J. McMahon, riding member of the Council, and Mr. D. Mackay, County clerk. About fifty residents attended.

The chairman explained the proposal, and' the Board’s engineer gave details, as publsihed in the “Star’ subsequent to the last meeting of the Board. It was stated that the total cost of installing electricity in the area indicated would be ovei £3OOO. The estimate of revenue was based on the Board’s returns in connection with the Waihi Beach extension.

A number of questions bearing on the proposal were asked by residents, and, on the motion of Mr. Watson, it was decided to recommend the Board to make a canvass of the district on the question of installing electricity in dwellings on the Coast Road. A small committee was set up to assist the Board’s canvasser in securing the necessary support.
