TAIRUA. PERSONAL. Mrs. E. 0. Phelan has returned from the Thames Hospital and is making good progress towards recovery. Mrs. McGregor has returned from a visit to her sister at Auckland. Mrs. Sheppard has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lowe, of Gis borne, are visiting Tairua, and are staying at the Sir George Grey Hotel. Good Fishing. Many anglers have reported good success with the line. Mr. E. 0. Phelan holds thie record to date of 17 fish for four visits. Mr. F. Hazeldene is next with nine fish. Keen anglers are advised to try the local pipi banks for good fishing. Dances. A dance organised by the Roadmen's Guild and held in the local hall resulted in a fair sum being handed over to the Children's Xmas Tree Fund. A most successful carnival dance was held on Friday evening, there being a very large attendance. A Thames orchestra supplied the music. A splendid crayfish and turkey supper, served under the direction of Mrs. Souness, was much enjoyed. Among those present were: Mesdames J. Prescott, Cory-Wright, Oldham, Agnew, Creamer, Nicol, Souness, Lowe, Thompson, Petley, Beach and Heath; Misses B. Creed, V. Creed, Jackson, Bowman, Agnew, Thompson, Lowe, Heath, Petley, J.
