THE THAMES BRANCH. AUGUST ACTIVITIES. The monthly meeting 0 £ the Thames Branch of the Plunket Society was held on Friday, Mrs E. N. Miller presiding. Others present were: Mesdames J. B. Liggius, Gemming, Taylor, Lockett, Clendon, Liggins, Senr., Cropp, Adams and the Horn Sec., Mrs Mackay. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Purnell and McCarroll.

-The Coromandel Sub-branch wrote asking if the Plunket Nurse’s visiting day could be altered from the third Monday to the fourth Monday of the month, as the nurse would be able to leave Coromandel several hours earlier i n the evening on the later date than under the piesent arrangement. Members were anxious that this should be done, provided that regular visits could be paid. The matter is to be further inquired into. A letter was received from the Director of Plunket Nursing with reference to the appointment of a permanent nurse. Levy fop Nurse.

A statement of the Central Council’s expenditure for the year ended March 31, 1932, was receive!. Government gyants and refund of travelling expenses amounted • to £934/10/8 and donations £lOl/1/3, leaving £1839/2/8 to be contributed by the branches, pro rata according to the number of nurses employed, the levy per nurse being £l4/2/3. The hon. treasurer was directed to forward a cheque for the amount.

The Town Clerk wrote notifying that the Borough Council had grant-' ed the Society permission to erect a Plunket building on the reservo fronting Queen Street. It was decided to call an early meeting of the Society’s Advisory Board to further consider the matter. The amount received to date in annual subscriptions was considered satisfactory in view of the prevailing depression, though considerably less than the usual income.

The secretary reported that Mr B. D. Chapman had generously offered benefit performances at tho Regent Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 13 and 14, when the Society would receive 30 per cent, of the takings for tho two nights. The offer was gratefully accepted, members being most appreciative of the proffered help. Miss Harding, relieving nurse, reported for August as follows: Visits to homes: Thames CO, outstations 106.
