WITH THE GALLOPERS.

FRANKLIN'S ANNUAL.

Excellent Racing Promised.

THE FIELDS REVIEWED.

(NOTES BY "CANARD.") To-morrow -the flags will be flying at Pukekohe for the Franklin Club's annual meeting, and, judging by the fields, some decent racing will be the order of the day. Pukekohe is noted for its lavish hospitality, and the main item of roast ;sueking pig always attracts the public. The Bombay Handicap is first on the list, and 'a quarter of a century of varied hacks are carded. Last year the winner turned up in Standfast, who beat Atapai in the first division, and Whakama landed the second division from Haviland. Probably divisions will be the order to-morrow, but when this is written they are not available. Perhaps the best six to follow will be Sir Mond, Chromadyne, I'm Alone, Ding Dong, Hannibal and Fairy and from these select: I'm Alone, Chromadyne, Ding Dong, from: BOMBAY HDCP., of £120; 6 fur. —Chromadyne, 'Sir Mond 8.11, I'm Alone 8.2, Mon Star, Tambourine 7.12/ Merry Lu,. Fairy Belle 7.11,. Coofie, iCantony Hannibal, Freyja, Chesterman, Onewhero, Principal Boy, Lusoma, Shine On, Benighted, Mangu King, iSister White, Temperature, Valorient, Operatic, Sweet Whisper, Ding Dong, Queenstown 7.10. .•■■. '

The Puni High weight is next, and last year Kawainga won from 'Sleepy Sol and' paid a- quarter of a century. Mashoor was third, and_Glena Bay was the top-weight with 10.12. Kawini had 10.7, and'this year has 9.4. The distance of a furlong over the mile and a half should suit The Lamb, Kaikuri, Kawini, Wedding March and Mashoor, the best perr haps beingj ~ Kawmi, The 'lUmb?; Kairuru, from:

PUNI HIGHWEIGHT, of £l5O, about 1 mile. 5 fur.—Wedding March, Wenday, The Lamb 10.11, Glena Bay 10.4, Kairuri 10.0, Kawini 9.4, Mashoor, Kamehameha, King Fame 9.0.

The Waiijku Handicap/6 fur., is next with .a.nice even field of 10. Big Bertha should go well after winning the open six at Thames, but she is also in the hack 7-fur., which may be her selected "go." On Top is more than useful, and will be fancied. Carl (Idem showed winning foum at. Dargaville, whilst Tetrachate won't go out paying a score this time. Parfait Amour, with 7.5, is a possibility, and 'Currajong is in form. Maurieana may not start, but Treasury can go like a scalded cat for 5£ furlongs, and may do the extra hundred yards,_ is not a popular one, and Arihana did not impress at Te Aroha. It looks to "-Canard" like-: Big Bertha (If reserved), Currajong, from:—

WAttUKU HDCP., of £130; 6 fur. —Big Bertha 8.8, On Top 8.7, Carl Idem. B.4,.Tetrachate, Parfair Amour 8.2, Currajong 7.13, Maurieana 7.7, Treasury 7.6, Rangikaha, Arihana, 7.0.

The Franklin Cup has drawn ten useful middle-distance handle appers, with Royal Doulton, 9.2, at the head of the list. She should be hard on her own course. Hyde Park will also be in demand, as he ran second to The Lover last year with 7.10 up. Desert Glow is one to watch, as he will bob up sooner or later. Mithra seems a bit out of her class, but, with Le Choucas, will represent .lamieson's stable. Transformer, if he will gallop, will be close, but he does not appear to be running too kindly just now. Mosaic and 'Sir Archie do not appeal very much, but King Emerald must certainly be considered on his Te Aroha running. King's Guard seems out of his class in a cup field. Those which the public may select are: Royal Doulton, Jamieson's elect, Desert Glow, from: FRANKLIN HDCP., of £450;-11 miles.—Royal Doulton 9.2, Hyde Park 8.0, Desert Glow 7.10, Mithra 7.5, Transformer 7.1, Le Choucas, Mosaic, Sir Archie, King Emerald, King's Guard 7.0.

The Buekland Handicap, of 6 fur., comes next, with the. Devil's" Own number engaged. Of these, Big

Bertha, Sir Mond, Fairy Belle, Temperature and iSnow Plane all claim other engagements, so the scratchings will play no small part in the final selection. Big Bertha has a big weight here, but the field is weaker and she may elect to take this on. If she does she will be hard. Sir Mond is also more at home in this company, and should be suited, if started. Page Boy may not face the starter. Aggressive should" run a good race, and so should Neil, who won at Northern Wairoa. Rose Wjllonyx also has a recent bracket to her credit. Little Gift is trained on the course, and Wenzl iSehollum usually tears one off at the meetnig. Odin is probably getting ready for the_lepping season. Snow Plane will be better suited in the Onewhero. Carlaris gave promise early in the season, but had-to be spelled. Fairy Belle may prefer the Bombay, whilst Temperature and Intent are pretty green*. It should be a fine finish if all. go to the post, with preferences for: Big Bertha, Aggressive, Sir Mond, from:

BUCKLAND HDCP., of £120; about 7 Boy, Big Bertha 9.9, Sir Mond 8.7, Aggressive, Neil, Rose Willonyx, Little Gift 8.5, Odin, Snow Plane, Carlaris, Fairy Belle, Temperature, Intent 8.0.

The open sprint is the next course and ten are earded for Tuakau Handicap, with that good mare, Eaglet, at the top of the list. Branson is next, but if the mare is herself she will be very "hard. iStill, Branson can. do a fine 6 fur. well, and must not be discarded. If Gold Money is showing signs of sweating be with her, but not otherwise. Lucy Rose is running into her best form, and should be troublesome.' Value went a couple of nice races at Te Aroha. If Gemlight starts he will be handy, but he will most likely take on the last race, and is preferred in that. Abbess, if her Te Aroha running-was genuine, cannot have a show—if she wins there should be some « questions asked. Cynthia N. is fair. Tinokoa will represent "Dick" Hannon, and on his day goes very fast for 5J fur. Joy Germ makes up the field: Favourites may be: -

Gold Money. Eaglet, Lucy (Rose, from:

TUAKAiTTLTHING, of £,250, 6 fur. —Eaglet 9.0, Branson 8.5, Gold Money 8.3, Lucy. Rose 8.1, Value 7.6, Gemlight 7.4, Abbess, Cynthia N. 7.3, Tinokoa, Joy Germ 7.0.

The hack 9 fur., the' Onewhero Handicap, is the last race but one,) and Brampton, Haviknd and Spring Abbey, all recently placed, head the list. Brampton has a treble at Dargaville, iSpring Abbey.. a headheat at Te Aroha, and-Haviland a second at the same place, to their credit. Qf the three, Haviland will be on his home territory and should improve most. Nassock has won a rough cup, and Always ditto. Motere has also a Te. Arhoa bracket. The other three, have no recent form. It should be a very open go, with, preferences for: -

Havilantf, Brampton, Motere,

from:

ONEWHERO HDCP.,, of £130.; 9 fur.—Brampton, Haviland, Spring Abbey 8.7, Nassock 7.12, Always 7.11, Motere 7.10, St. Ames 7.9, Snow Plane, Catulus 7.0.

Branson heads the list in the last race, the Pukekohe 7 fur., and meets Gemlightj who also has a Tuakau engagement, on lib. worse terms. Vali and * King Willonyx are fair sorts, both being fairly well seasoned. Vali is* perhaps the better. Sea /Cob, from Jamieson's stable, is, so "Canard" was told at Te Aroha, very well arid just ready for a race like this. Imperial Prince Prince showed good form at Ellerslie, and Kawainga is having his only start of the meeting. Quincoma should go .very close indeed, and neither'Respirator nor Tanagra can be totally- neglected. The favourites may be: Gemlight, Quincoma, Sea Cob, ."Canard" fancies that Tanagra may run well, from: PUKEKOHE HDCP.,- of £150; about 7 fur.—Branson 8.12, Vali 8.5, King Willonyx, .Gemlight 7.11, Sea Cob? Imperial Prince 7.10, Kawainga 7.9, Quincoma, Respirator, Tanagra 7.0.
