ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A PARMER DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ri DUNEDIN, Dec 10. A well-known farmer, Mr James Smith, of Barnego, Balclutha, was, drowned while trout fishing on the Pomahaka Stream on Sunday. He was with a party of anglers at first, but became separated from his companions, and when he did not arriv« at the appointed meeting pi ic 2 in the evening fears were entertained for his safety. . Search parties were organised and yesterday afternoon the missing man's rod and line were discovered. Dragging operations were commenced and his body was later recovered in about 20ft of water
CYCLIST KILLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) KAIKOHE, Dec. 10. A fatal motor-cycle accident occurred near Okaihau on Saturday, the victim being Mr Clarence Edwin Molyneux, aged 54, who was employed on the Public Works staff at Okaihau.
The deceased, accompanied by Mr A. J. Mackie, who is also employed on the Public Works staff at Okaihau, was returning home at about 6 o'clock from Kaikohe on his motor-cycle, Mr Mackie being in the side-car. About. four miles from. Okaihau the machine skidded in loose metal and overturned. Mr Mackie was thrown clear and received only facial injuries, which did not necessitate his removal to hospita, but Mr Molyneux was pinned underneath the side-car. Death must have been instantaneous. The skull was badly fractured. An Inquest was held at Ohaeawai yesterday, when a verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone. It Is not known whether deceased was married. He was a returned soldier and it is understood his next-of-kin resides in England.
