SPICY APHORISMS.
Herd 1 are' some of the spicy aphorisms with which Sir lan Malcolm, the wellknown writer seeks to stimulate the mental palate:— The use of leisure is an art of immense importance in this work-a-day world. It teaches us what we should do with our own time. In every human being there i;s a need for and a,corresponding capacity to enjoy some form of art in its widest possible significance. The thief of time is the mentality which at any sudden period of leisure spends precious moment's in wondering how the spare time is to be employed. The artist in leisure always has a good hook in his pocket to clip into in a train or during slack hours in the office; and in his head he knows exactly the name of the hook that he is going to rea dnext. The fault of, the present generation is that it reads' too little and publishes too much.
