FIRE AT WAIHI.

FOUR ROOMED HOUSE BURNT.

FURNITURE DESTROYED

Word was received in Thames by the police this morning that fire had damaged a four roomed house in Adams Street, at Waihi, early this morning.

The outbreak was discovered at about 3.30 a.m., when the flames had a good hold and though the brigade made every effort the building was badly damaged, The place which was the property of Mrs. Meagher, was unoccupied at the time of the outbreak, but contained a quantity of furniture which was destroyed by the flames and water. The origin of the fire is not known, hut it is said , that there are no suspicious circumstances.

At the time of writing insurances are not available.

Two large wooden houses and contents in Victoria Street, Petone, were totally destroyed by fire at eleventhirty Thursday' A blustering wind was blowing and to this being added a shockingly poor water pressure the brigade had an exceedingly difficult task to sto” the further spread of the flames, the fight continuing for three hours,. The house of origin was occupied by ,Mrs. Patrick Quinn and family, and was insured for £l5O and £BSO. The other was owned V- Mrs. King and was occupied by her and Mrs. and Archer and family. There was an insurance o f £SOO. and Quinn’s furniture was insured for £390.
