.WATERSIDERS’ DANGER,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) W ELLINGTON, Dec. 7.
“Tlie evidence satisfies me that in the interests of men engaged in working cargo safety hooks should be used,” ■vyas the rider attached to the verdict given by the Coroner, -Mr. J. W. Barton, S.M., at the inquest today on a waterside worker, Jas David Kirkwood, who while engaged at the steamer Rangitiki on Tuesday evening was struck by an empty_ tray which fell from the hook on to the wharf. He died later in hospital. The Coroner’s verdict was that the deceased was killed whilst engaged in loading operations on the overseas liner Rangitiki by lieinp- struck on the head by a falling cargo tray, part of the loading equipment.
WOMAN CYCLIST KILLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, Dec. 6. A fatal accident occurred on the main road near Taumarunui last evening, the victim being Mrs Rita Gannon, who was killed instantly. At about seven o’clock she was riding a bicycle in the direction of Matapuna, on the main road, and was struck by a car travelling in the opposite direc-' tlon. The car was driven by Sydney Gordon Stewart, of Te Awamutu.
