A HAUHAU CHIEF.
DIES AT WANGANUI
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUT, Nov. 15.
Eruini Te Irihau, an old Maori chieftain, and a noted figure in 'Wanganui during the Maori wars, was found dead in bed.
He was on the Hauhau side, in the wars, and took part in the Battle of Moutoa, where he was opposed to one •who was his bosom friend, Apera Te 'Keunga. Eruini shot Apera in the •foot, and to the end of his life Apera had to walk with the aid of a crutch. Although once a rebel, Eruini afterwards became a patriotic citizen. He took part in many public gatherings, -and was presented to the Duke and Duchess of York. He was nearly 100 wears of age.
