The Committe submits the following report of. the Borough electrical engineer on the state of electric poles and the suitability of conorete poles for future replacements :

“Our poles which have been erected about 17 years were of a mixed hardwood, including a few ironbark. tip to the present the replacements would not exceed 5 per cent. For twelve months ending last March 14 poles were replaced. On making an examination I find that there are poles that will need attention shortly, and as time goes on we can expect that the percentage of replacements on the original poles will increase, hut for this year not more than 14 to 20 poles should he required. The ironbark poles that were erected with the original lot appear to lie as good today as when they were put in. The suitability of the- concrete pole for line construction has been proved beyond a doubt, hut from an economical point of view there is still a difference of opinion between engineers, as some claim the ironbark pole is good for 40 to 50 years, or even longer. A fair amount of outlay is required for making concrete poles and to compare in price with ironbark, they would require to be manufactured in large •numbers. As fur as we are concerned I think it would l>e advisable, for a time at least, to adhere to ironbark.” Tliat special lighting be provided on Saturday nights at the intersection of Grev Street with Pollen Street.
