THE PRINTING TRADE.

DISPUTE BEING HEARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) "WELLINGTON, Aug. 34. The wages and conditions of those employed in the printing trade, other than typographers, engaged the attention of the Council of Conciliation yesterday. The assessors on the counci' l were appointed from the principal publishing houses in the Dominion, and from the Federation of* Workers. The application was made on behalf of the employees engaged throughout the Dominion, and included a request for an increase of wages, annual leave, a decrease in hours, and minor improvements.

The business was taken in committee, and at the-conclusion of the day’s proceedings the chairman announced that' considerable difficulty was being experienced by the parties in arranging suitable adjustments in respect. to hours of work and ratek of wages. He, however, was of the opinion that before the termination of the conferences the representatives of the parties would be able to come to terms on these points. Other items would not present much difficulty. * The proceedings will be resumed today.
