THE Thames Star

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1929. POLAR EXPEDITIONS.

“With mclice toward# none; with charity for all; with firmnaa# in the right, as God gives us to see ‘the riflht.''--"l_mcoln.

Former South Polar expeditions, when they left New Zealand, vanishfrom our ken until such time as the fates ordained that they should return and report. The Byrd' Expedition, on the contrary, has never lost touch with us, for the radio has enabled ‘both them and us to maintain communications. Commander Byrd has just wirelessed his thanks for excellent concerts he and his companions have had the pleasure of hearing from the New Zealand station, and we in this country have been in touch with the activities of the expedition. With the approach of the sun in the Antarctic there will be an increase in these activities, culminating in the exploration of the Polar regions by aeroplane and land parties. The radio will keep the .world daily informed of these, and from this point of view the Byrd’ expedition should be one of the most interesting in the annals of Polar adventure.
