SUCCESSFUL, ISSUE. FARMERS’ QUEEN WINS. The Paeroa queen carnival, which has been running- i'or the past six weeks, came to a successful conclusion on Saturday evening, when a large crowd thronged the streets. A fancy-dress and torchlight procession paraded the streets and marched to the post office, where the final selling stalls were placed. The three queens competin'-- were:— Farmers’, Allss Helen Matthews; sports, Miss Vivian Shand.; business, Miss Iris Masters. The result of the voting placed them in that order. The objective ’of the carnival was to raise £SSO*-to complete the Paeroa ■war memorial fund, build a ladies’ rest room and provide work for unemployed. So successful was the fixture that the sum raised totalled £1560. The Mayor congratulated the winning queen on her success, and the other two candidates on their splendid achievements. Cheers were given for each of the competitors. The carnival spirit prevailed until midnight, and the function concluded with a free dance in the Gaiety Theatre.
