MANAGING RUGBY.

MEETING OF UNION. THE FUTURE PROGRAMME. VISIT FROM AUCKLAND. The Management Committee of the Thames Rugby Union met last evening, Mr J. W. Arbury presiding over Messrs P. Trebilcock, H. G. Murray, H. Moyle, R. M. Rhodes, L. Sutcliffe, J. Spraggon, F. Veddef, J. Hill, and the following delegates: Messrs A. Delamore and T. Henderson (City), W. Kelly (C. 0.8.), L. Crawford-Wat-son (Mercury Bay), and P. McElwain (Auckland Rugby Union).

Prior to the business of the meeting, th'e' chairman welcomed Mr McElwain, the Thames Union’s representative on the Auckland Rugby Union, saying that he was an able representative at Auckland. Peace Cup Rules.

The Pukekohe, Rugby Union wrote supporting the Union’s views regarding the proposed alterations to the Peace Cup rules, and stating that Pukekohe was notifying Auckland to that effect.

Match with Morrinsville

The Morrinsville Rugby Union wrote accepting a game at Thames should a elate be available.

Mr Rhodes said that Morrinsville, now it 'had lost the Peace Cup, had no other fixtures. He had also seen the Hamilton Union, and they had assured him that if Hamilton played any rep. matches at all Thames would be the place they would play at.

Auckland Arrangements. A vote of thanks to Mr P. McElwain for the excellence of his arrangements at Auckland was carried, the secretary stating that they had worked out well.

Manager’s Report.

Mr H. G- Murray reported that the boat had been late in starting owing to three players being late. He had had a long talk with: the chairman of the Auckland Management Committee and considered that the best thing to do to get any further with the aims of the Thames Union would be to send a deputation to the Auckland Rugby Union.

Mr Rhodes said that if Auckland sent -down its “A” team it, would only be carrying out its promise of thf*ee years ago.

Mr McElwain recommended the sending of a deputation. After a considerable discussion, Mr Rhodes .moved that a deputation wait on the Auckland Union, the deputa-' tion to consist of Messrs J. W. Danby, J. W. Arbury, H. G. Murray, P. McElwain and E. O- Brownlee. This was agreed to, the date to be arranged by the chairman. Auckland Entertainment.

Messrs Spraggon ancl Sutcliffe re-j ported upon the’ visits to Auckland of, the juniors and third-grade teams. , Mr Spraggon mentioned that the Ponsonby team had entertained the Thames juniors instead of the Auckland Union. The third-grade team had had to entertain itself. A letter of thanks to the Ponsonby Club was ordered to be sent, and also to the Auckland Union.

Thames Valley Letter. The Thames Valley Rugby Union wrote that any correspondence in connection with Vangioni and Buchanan must in future came through the Auckland Rugby Union. Members mentioned that the Auckland Rugby Union had changed its view of the incident.

Finally, on the motion of Messrs Rhodes and Murray, it was decided to ■ thank the Thames Valley Rugby Union for its courteous reply, and state that the Thames Rugby Union regretted that the Valley Union could not see its sway 'clear to fall in with its wishes. .

Future Fixtures.

Mr Murray reported that three junior <r teams had asked for visits to Thames in the near future.

Mr Rhodes asked if it would be possible to play all future fixtures on theHigh School ground. The general opinion of' members was favourable.

Mr Rhodes remarked that it would be necessary to get on to the ground improvements at Rhodes Park almost at once.

Thames B v. Mercury Bay, at Mercury Bay. It was decided to make a charge of 1/- for cup matches in future. Mr Trebilcock was appointed manager of the team for Mercury Bay. Congratulation to Hockey-ites.

The chairman congratulated the Thames-Hauraki Hockey Association on the success of their match with the Australian team, and paid a tribute to the arrangements. It had been an eye-opener to the town. Mr Crawford-Watson thanked the chairman for his remarks, and said that a great deal of the credit was due to the loyal support of Rugbyites, particularly the secretary. Mr Brownlee. He had been told by the Manager of the Australian team that the arrangements and ground had been the best they had had in New Zealand. He (the manager.) intended.

when he returned to Australia, to recommend to the Australian Hockey Association that in future tours of New Zealand a match with ThamesHauraki Hockey Association be included in the itinerary. „ Match with Newton.

Mr McEhvain asked if it would he possible to give his team (Newton) a match against the Thames junior reps, as a curtain-raiser to the Auckland game on August 31. On the motion of Messrs Rhodes and Sutcliffe, it was decided to grant the match. It was decided to offer St. Helier’s a match against the “B” reps. Match with Morrinsvilie.

It was resolved to play the match with Morrinsvilie on August 24, the condition laid down being that the match with Morrinsvilie be played early next season. Coromandel Match.

In connection with the C. 0.8. match With Coromandel, on the motion of Mr Rhodes it was resolved to notify the Club that there was a rep. fixture on that date, and that they would be allowed to select any other players Who were available, or if they wished to go as a club they would be allowed to go on the occasion of their next bye. The Grounds Committee was deputed to go into the question of arranging seating accommodation for future matches.
