DEPUTATION TO MINISTER.
A SUBSIDY ASKED FOR
SYMPATHETIC REPLY GIVEN. l(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. Representatives of • the Hauraki plains County Ciuncil waited upon the Minister of Public Works to-day and requested that the Government Should grant a subsidy of £2 for £1 on roading work which had been completed in the vicinity of the township of Kerepeehi.
It was pointed out by the deputation that the Government had declined to grant a subsidy until the vvhole work, including the roading of the township, had been completed, and this had resulted in hardships on the County, as a special loan would be necessary before Kerepeehi could tie roaded. The 'Minister said he saw no reason why the subsidy should not be paid on wdrk already completed. The ratepayers of Kerepeehi could then proceed to raise a loan to carry out their own work. He would give the {matter his consideration.
