SOCIAL ITEMS.
Airs. Marris, who has been tlief guest of Airs. Alfred Price, has returned to AVellington. Airs. AV. H. Hoult and Airs. McCaffrey have been visiting Hamilton. Miss F. Graham is spending a short holiday in Auckland. Airs. A. Chapman is at present visiting AA hakatane where her daughter, Airs. Haynes, is lying seriously ill
Miss P. Cooke haf; been visiting her aunt. Mrs. S. J. Palmer, Bemuera. A. Fisher is visiting her mother, Mrs. B. Franklin. Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Teasdale, of Richmond Street, gave a very charming jazz and musical evening last Friday. The front room was cleared of furniture and decorated with blue and pink streamers with a dome constructed of the same colours, the streamers continuing with frieze effect on the walls of the room. The dining room was prepared as a, drawing room and decorated with flowers. All the latest jazz music was provided ais well as other popular dances. During the evening Mrs. Teasdale sang “Boses of Picardy,” s “Sunshine and Bain,” and “Garden of My Heart,” and Mrs. . Bongard contributed pianoforte soles. Lielwrslied. Li.stz’s Prelude, La Besata Venezriana (Listz), all of which were much, enjoyed. The host and hostess snared no pains to make their guests enjoy themselves and it was with regret that the partv finally broke up. after a very excellent and sumptuous supper, “Auld Lang Syne” being sung before the guests went heme. Mrs. Teasdale received her guests dressed in a becoming French model gown of pink crepe de chine worked in blue and silver. Those present were Mesdames W. Bongard (scarlet georgette and silver lace), J. B. Ligpins (apricot mousseline), A. Bruce (black lace over soft satin and handsome fringed scarf), A. E. Court (beige georgette over blue), C. B. Cooke (apricot lace and taffeta), B. Surinan (putty coloured silk lace and net), C. W. Berry (petunia chiffon ■velvet). Ken Hetherington (putty coloured lace) and Miss Leila. Price (black pan velvet with striking scarf with long fringe.) ; also Dr. Digging and Messrs. W. Bongard. Court,

The Senior Bridge Club met last week at Mrs W. Watson’s, Hape Rond, and meets this week at Mrs. Bush’s,
ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Edith, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A! A, Briggs, Thames, to Thomas Claude Bell, of Orini.
