SMALLER AREA IN 1928. BUT LARGER RETURNS. ' FIGURES JUST PUBLISHED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. A return madtf by the Government Statistician, based on cards returned
by growers of two acres or over and 1 computations for smaller crops, shows that the total area in potatoes for 1928-29 was 21,304 acres, which yielded 84,529 tons, table quality, and 39,078 of other quality, a total of 123,607 tons.
Though the area planted decreased by 389 acres, compared with the previous year, the yield shows an increase of 4912 tons of table and a decrease of 2707 tons of other quality, the total net increase being 2205 tons.
