MACHINE RECONDITIONED. SPEECH AT CHELMSFORD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. Short-wave enthusiasts had a very ,good reception from Chelmsford station on Saturday morning relaying from 21.0 studio, London. Very notable wa,> the presence of Kingsford Smith and Him. both of whom spoke. Smith was heard perfectly and not a word was missed. He . wgs noncommittal regarding further flights of the Southern Cross which lie said was being reconditioned in Amsterdam and put into thoroughly good order. He was having four new English machines built for the projected passenger service in Australia and he hoped to be back at the beginning of November • ito show them “how ,to operate an efficient mail service, j Among the surprises of the evening at the studio was the arrival of Captain Barnard, who had. just letumcd with, the Duchess of Bedford from a record-breaking flight to India and back in seven days.
