PAEROA CONCLUDES.

SECOND DAY’S RESULTS. LUCY ROSE IN FORM. BIG DROP IN TOTALISATOR. Following are the concluding results of the second day of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s meeting, held yesterday:—

s Waihi Handicap, Dainty Manners, Rua, Night Comet, Ruby Dawn, Muskall Maid, and Land Measure were scratched for the Waihi Handicap, the favouritism settling on Len (£453/10/-), and the favourite t duly landed the money. There was also money for Just Nell (£371), Loving Cup (£350) and The Jack Jumper (£329/10/-). Loving Cup was first to show out from Swift Light, The Jack Jumper, King Leslie, Just Nell, Claremore and Pae Ana, the two leaders being clear of King Leslie at the back, with Just Nell, Pae Ana, The Jack Jumper, Spancil Hill and Len in that order. Len ran up to third position at the entrance) to the straight and came through to win from Katuscka, which finished fast, Moving Cup being third .half a length away. Then came Swift Light, The Jack Jumper, King Leslie, Thanks and Pae Ana. It -was a good finish. Details: , WAIHI HANDICAP. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time: 1.27 4/5. * Lucy Rose Again. > The crowd was roused to frenzied cheering when the unfortunate Lucy ■Rose, who had been robbed of her win in the Shaw Memorial, came out and won the Paeroa Handicap. Her diminutive rider, Chandler, was taken up to the scratching board and the crowd cheered and cheered again when the mare came home. Chelone, on the strength of his southern performances, was sent out the popular choice, with £552, with Subdivision (£553) and Awarere (£528) also well fancied. Lucy Rose carried £314. Takutama got the best of a poor start, followed by Value, Chelone, Billikins. Subdivision, Awarere and Atapai. Round the back Chelone had run to the front from Takutama and Value, followed at intervals by Billikins, Awarere and Atapai. Billikins and Awarere made forward moves at the top and Chelone turned into the straight a bare length ahead of them. Then came Takutama, Green Bonnet and Subdivision. Lucy Rose was actually last into the straight, but, hard ridden, came through to pip Awarere on the post, with Billikins half a length away third. Subdivision was fourth and then came Green Bonnet, Atapai, Chelone (who weakened badly), and Takutama. Time, 1.15 3/5. Star Of The East Wins Steeples. A very fine exhibition of jumping was given in the Steeples, when Star of the East went out and won from end to end. The public selected their old favourite, Glenotus, to carry their cash (£686), and Master Arch (£558) was a good second favourite from the winner (£471). Every Day, which was omitted from the card, carried £147. ( star of the East went out from a good despatch, followed by Roman Abbey, Master Arch, King Fame, Glenotus, Prince Rufus and Every Day. That was the order going over the double the first time, but Roman Abbey fell on the flat at the lower end. The same order was maintained round the back, and when they turned from the top into the straight

the first time Sharkey took Glenotus across the inner course, cutting off a bit of ground. The result was a bunching at the fence. Star of the East, Glenotus and Master Arch cleared out from the others, and got well away from Prince Rufus and King Fame, with Every Day somewhere in the next race. There was little difference on the second round exdept that distances were further between the three leaders and the rest. The third round saw the other two challenge Star of the East, but he won after a clever show by three lengths from Glenotus, who beat Master Arch by a head. The other two to finish, King Fame and Prince Rufus, were distanced. • - Details: HAURAKI PLAINS STEEPLES. 3—STAR OF THE EAST (Dulieu) 1 1— GLENOTUS 2 2 MASTER ARCH 3 Also started: 4 Roman Abbey, 5

Prince Rufus, 7 King Fame. 6 Every Day. Won by three lengths. Time: 5.55 3/5. Air King Wins Waikino. There was a good pool for the last race, from which Takutama and Sir Russell were the only withdrawals. Auriculus was sorted out as a good thing, carrying £9OS, with Serang (£741) next in order. Air King (£558) was the winner, and in an exciting finish got the verdict. Berinthia was away in the lead from Serang, Air King, and The Thorn. Berinthia still led Air King into the top, and when they reached the straight Air King was a length ahead of Berinthia, with Serang a bare head away. In a rattling finish Air King won by a nose from Serang. with The Thorn a head -away. Auriculus/was fourth, then came Archeen and Berinthia.
